SYSTEM AND ORDER IN THEORY AND PRACTICE

"Discipline, ethics, orderliness and cleanliness" are terms which vibrated our eardrums , its visual manifestations reflected around in the day today official and personal life and ultimately moulded to practice in the whole life period etc. are stages of a usual methodology in the formation of the life of a soldier. Consequently, a soldier is generally deemed by the society to be disciplined in his every walk of life. At times he becomes a beneficiary in his first and later innings, which attributes to his ethics and discipline.

Bible proverb says, " Let all things be done decently and in order" . Benjamin Disraeli says, " Cleanliness and order are not matters of instinct, they are matters of education, and like most great things you must cultivate a taste for them." All these maxims illustrate that there should be a powerful frame work with in which the qualities are to be cultivated. Certain habits and qualities have to be cultivated by putting under constraints since human beings are inherently attracted towards pleasures and repelled by pain and strain. That opportunity is provided by the great Indian Forces. Mahatma Gandhi, The Father of our Nation, says, " There is an orderliness in the universe, there is an unalterable law governing every thing and every being that exists or lives." That means, your life will be peaceful and happy if you move with the universal orderliness and unalterable universal law . Again, Thomas Mann says tips to be master for leading comfortable life, " Order and simplification are the first steps towards the mastery of a subject". Probably, the pioneers had foreseen the results before formulating the Forces administration. They are our honest benefactors, in spite of being instrumental to some of our hardships.

My professional Ex servicemen predicissors of our central government institute had left behind a reputation of ESM like system and order which paved the way for my selection in addition to my academic proficiency in profession as they tested and trusted the efficacy of retired soldiers in various departments, not only that there was no infiltration and trespassing of filthy political interference allowed by autonomous nature of its constitution. Later my acquired quality of ESM methodology successfully led me to the culmination till retirement. Being a research institute, the talented members were encouraged in their research work by giving all type of support. If one discovers some thing new and gets the approval of the Institute scientific committee ,he could attend a National or International conferance on special leave with all incured expenditure and present his scientific paper. Fortune favoured me to present twenty scientific papers on Physiotherapy in National conferences with the support of the Institute.

The novel concepts and ideas are churned out by scientists for months and years of searching and experimenting with men and material . At times , hard earned concepts are snatched or robbed if not carefully kept under digital lock and key. Ethics and morality are at times invisible in research institutes. Money is not a very attractive commodity. But unrevealed concepts are of paramount demand and likely to be stolen. But it is a rare phenomena as the churned out precious ideas are never leaked out untill presented on record.

We have been discussing about the ESM like system and order at the outset. Straightforwardness is an adjunct to it. Generally we experiment with transparency and straightforwardness in the Forces since violation of which is viewed seriously and your moral stature is tarnished. But the aforesaid virtues are dear commodity in civil life. I am not an exception for being exploited due to my ESM like open mindedness. Excavated concepts by hard work were subjected to pilferage by my innocence and sincerity obtained from the Forces. But they were lessons for the future successful endeavours. A practical strategy could be evolved in me with out being hypocritic. There are many of our ESMs, who underwent hurdles of this kind or slightly different in their various fields of activity. A minority faced extinction by inability to withstand the disappointing challenges. Today's breaking news was the lamentation of a retired soldier, who has been sacked by a Nationalised bank by confiscation for non payment of sixty lakhs of agricultural loan. He was persuaded by the bank in the beginning ,offering discount in interest for ESM and later deprived him of that. It ended in the devastation of his entrepreneurship. These are a few rare cases like tip of an iceberg of total failure by losing one's footing. Keeping all these aside, our ESM people are intelligent to learn from falls and they resurrect like mythical bird phoenix and survive for the rest of their life with out forsaking the acquired morality.
