PANDEMIC FATIGUE
It is totally understandable after two years quarantine and stay at home orders that we are feeling discouraged. The flash news about a strange fever in Wuhan, the sprawling capital of Central China's Hubei province, was initially thought to be an endemic over that area only in 2019. The detriment of the fever was felt in my own body when I was succumbed to it with in months. Never before I craved to know about Spanish fever and Plague as pandemics centuries ago.
WHO foresaw the pungency and devastating power of the disease and named it as Covid-19 as a pandemic. Nobody knew till then about the behavior of the organism, Corona. Medical scientists, all over the world perseverantly strived to find out remedies. Meanwhile the catastrophic disease abducted lakhs of people globally. The hospitals all over the world were crowded. Freely available nature's gift of life saving oxygen became dearth. People were gasping like fish out of water. Friends and relatives had limitation to help each other, even for the last rites. All were frantically fleeing from place to place. How the human being, who reached the heights of Artificial super intelligence, became helpless and looking up for the mercy of God was vividly seen. God has taken whom he wanted at that time. Charls Darwin said, that the fittest survived in the struggle for existence of the species.
But God said, " My plans are not your plans, nor your ways are my ways." Whatever be the fact, transformation is an incessant phenomenon happening world over. To quote Issac Newton, " The more I knew about universe, I knew how less I knew about it". We ,the brilliant human beings have reached a microscopic part of the information about the universe. How many hundreds of diseases are waiting for a curative treatment , although diseases are detected. It is the confession of a day like fact rather than adding a tinge of pessimism and despair. We can be proud of our perseverance in leaving no stone unturned in the domain of research. We know that the lungs are the most affected organ by Covid-19. There are other Comorbidities, like blood coagulation and rarely , Gullain Barre Syndrome, which became killer factors in Covid 19. Our National research Institute, SCTIMST has a record of saving post Covid GBS cases. It is still unknown that the once damaged alveoli(tiny air sac) will be repaired permanently although the ARDS and Pneumonia are symptom free. Covid 19 is deadly in individuals who have underlying illness or respiratory complications or both. It is expected that next Covid 19 variant will be definitely be more contageous than Omicron. The World Health Organistion cautioned against assuming the Covid 19 pandemic has reached its end game. The Director General of WHO said, "Globally , the conditions are ideal for more variants to emerge." The emergence of new Corona virus, named , NeoCov, has been announced by WHO, while writing this. NeoCov has been discovered by Chineese scientists . It is said to have a potential to kill one of the every three infected people.
Thus, we have been on the toes, encountering Covid 19 for the past two years and still the Covid world war is ongoing as a struggle for existence. Historically and Anthropologically ,this struggle for survival is all through out animal and plant history. It is a solace that our efforts in science and technology has made it less intolerable when we look at present with reference to past.
