IN THE END, IT IS NOT THE YEARS IN YOUR LIFE THAT COUNT.
Mortality of human life is well known to everybody. Human longevity is generally not for centuries. So with this transient life, opportunities have an important role. God has sowed various opportunities in abundance in front of his creations. There are two factors, enthusiasm and perseverance, which can make it fruitful. Circumstances and environments can be lame excuses for attaining the goal. Great men are innumerable who focused on the goal and achieved in unfavourable conditions. The "Kathasarith Sagara"(Ocean of streams of stories) is an 11th-century collection of Indian legends, fairy tales, and folk tales as retold in Sanskrit by Shaivite Somadeva. I happened to read a story from that, called "Mooshikan".
Bhagavad Gita
Once, a man went to the house of a wealthy merchant. He overheard the merchant scolding his son. The merchant said to his son, " You wasted and lost all money I had given you for your business. You are incapable. Here is a dead rat, if you are capable, you can become a wealthy businessman even with that ". The visitor man, after hearing the conversation, requested the merchant to give him the dead rat. The merchant gave him the rat with a smile. The man took the rat and visited many houses to sell it for a small amount. One man from a house bought the dead rat for a meager amount for his cat to eat. The man bought some groundnut with that little amount, fried it, and sat on the roadside with some water.
Kathasarit sagara
Some tired woodcutters came that way and bought the groundnut and water by giving him some firewood. Thus he sold it every day and could collect a large quantity of firewood in a few days. In the rainy season, he got a good price for the firewood. Collecting all money he started a good provision shop in course of time and later he became a millionaire. He was famous as "mooshikan" as his pet name.
The Holly Bible
The message of the story is that God showers to those with ardour and perseverance. In the teachings of Hindu scriptures also, hardworking is glorified as against laziness. "The parable of talents" (Mathew 25: 14-30 )in the Bible also delineates about the master who congratulates the servant, who doubled in business the five talents he gave him as capital for business. Waiting for destiny alone like a hornbill bird is foolishness. One's opportunities are different from the other. Your attitude is of paramount importance for your future. Patience and perseverance have a magical effect before which difficulties disappear and obstacles vanish. The key to success is action and the essential inaction is perseverance. God gave us the gift of life; it is up to us to give ourselves the gift of living well.
